"Julian", a powerful one-woman drama about the life of the remarkable medieval woman mystic, Julian of Norwich, will be presented live by professional actor and Presbyterian clergywoman, Linda C. Loving, at University Place Presbyterian Church, 8101 27th Street, W, University Place, WA 98466. Tickets are $10 and are available in advance through uppc.org/events, at the church office, and for cash at the door. Following the hour and a half drama and refreshments, Rev. Loving will offer an opportunity for dialog about her personal “Journey with Julian”.

The drama, by playwright J. Janda, is based upon Julian’s fourteenth century writings: Revelations of Divine Love. Julian was an anchoress, lived through three bouts of the plague, and was the first known woman to write in English. Her words of hope and inspiration speak to the turmoil and plague of our times, as well. Julian is recognized for her wisdom, beautiful prose, sound theology and expansive understanding of a generous, all loving God.

Ms. Loving, who will be traveling to Tacoma from Santa Fe, New Mexico, has been performing this drama for over thirty years around the country.  Her performance has been filmed in Julian’s cell and church in Norwich, England.  In addition, Ms. Loving has performed widely for congregations and academic institutions, such as  McCormick Theological Seminary, Trinity University in Austin, Washington State University, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Alma College, Miami University of Ohio, Newberry College, Calvin College, University of Richmond, among others.

Interest and scholarship about Julian have increased in recent years; she is best known for her words “All shall be well, and all will be well.” Ms. Loving observes, “I am continually amazed at how this drama moves audiences in deep and unexpected ways. Julian is timeless in her inspiration, and audiences are hungry for her truth.”
